Beautiful Books #2 Slightly Foxed – Gloucester Road, London

Slightly-Foxed-Gloucester-Road-TB-027 A visit to ‘Slightly Foxed’ has been on my mind for some time now, so I was glad to be able to make it there at the beginning of this week.

Slightly Foxed is situated on the busy Gloucester Road just a convenient stones throw away from the tube station of the same name.  From the outside it has the appearance of a traditional old fashioned book shop, and is both attractive and inviting.  When I visited the window was adorned with a display of old style Penguin books, which in my opinion will always look beautiful.

The shop is small but packed full of both brand new and secondhand books.  The new books seemed to be mainly on the ground floor and there was an interesting selection of recommended books that I hadn’t seen before.  There was a colourful selection of children’s books and the shop stocks quirky postcards and traditional penguin mugs and book bags. The basement floor is full of second hand and antiquarian books from all genres with many of them being in hard back.

It was a quiet Monday morning when I visited but in the short time I was browsing 2 others came in and bought books.  I was of course unable to resist a couple of purchases.  I bought a book called ‘The Norfolk Mystery’ by Ian Sansom.  I was drawn to this mainly because I’m a Norfolk born girl and anything with Norfolk in the title will always draw me in. I shall read it and let you know what I think….  I also bought a second hand copy of ‘In the Wet’ by Nevil Shute.  At £4 it was a bit pricey for a second hand book.  However this is Kensington and Chelsea and as I am always on the look out for Nevil Shute books I couldn’t resist.

This is a lovely shop to while away some time.  It is handily located near to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park which on a sunny day would be the perfect place to take any purchases for some indulgent reading time.  If you are unable to visit in person, Slightly Foxed also has an online ordering system.  There really is something for everyone and I suspect I may be stopping off here again in the not too distant futureSlightly-Foxed-Gloucester-Road-TB-038-255x300

It sounds a great place! I’ve read one of Ian Sanson’s but can’t quite remember which one. I think I will have to start making a ‘reading list’ because as well as the Book Club book, I’ve always got one or two others on the go! These days I can’t always remember what they were ………..

I know what you mean. I tend to scribble down titles or authors of anything I think I might find interesting or enjoyable.
