A First Encounter With Harold Huxley

Dragons Can Fly

This Weekend at the Ideal Homes Christmas Show in London I had my first encounter with Harold Huxley and his lovely creator Emma McNally.  Harold Huxley is a ‘house hog’, part of the hedgehog family.  He lives in a house and can usually be found with his best friend Lamb embarking on all sorts of adventures.

Emma has written and illustrated a collection of rhyming picture books for younger and pre school children and a collection of adventure ‘chapter’ books for older children.  All of the books feature Emma’s beautiful illustrations and are immediately appealing in their simplicity.

I love rhyming stories and bought ‘Dragons Can Fly’  for my nearly 4 year old nephew who is rather partial to a dragon.  I am sure he will enjoy this book, and I can’t wait to read it with him

It was lovely talking to Emma, and hearing a little about how Harold Huxley came to life.  She is a story teller too and her enthusiasm for reading and children’s books is infectious.

I am always looking for original books for the children in my life  and feel sure I will be buying more of Emma’s lovely books.  If you would like to find out more about Harold Huxley the house hog (and why wouldn’t you!) and Emma McNally, do visit her website.

Which children’s authors would you recommend?
