#BEDM Cinco de Mayo – Lets Celebrate

Cinco de MayoIf you are in America or Mexico chances are you will be celebrating  Cinco de Mayo.  If you are in the UK, chances are you won’t have heard of this celebration.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the French forces of Napoleon III on May 5, 1862, at the Battle of Puebla.  Today this victory is marked with Mexican food and Margaritas.  Sounds like a good way to celebrate to me

As I’m feeling in a celebratory mood myself I thought I would share this recipe for this Mexican inspired cocktail the classic Margarita.  It’s from the ever reliable BBC Good Food.

Classic Margarita

35ml/1¼fl oz Reposado Tequila

20ml/¾fl oz Cointreau

35ml/1¼fl oz fresh lime juice

handful ice cubes

lime wedge, to garnish

  1. Pour the Tequila, Cointreau and lime juice into a cocktail shaker.

  2. Add a handful of ice cubes and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a Martini glass with half the rim damped with water, then dipped in salt.
  4. Add a lime wedge on the rim by way of garnish.
