Blogging it forward with Wayfair and that Christmas Rocky Road

Blog it ForwardI was completely unaware of the Wayfair Blog it Forward Challenge until the lovely Stephanie over at Life at 139a nominated me to take part.  For the month of December, Wayfair is challenging bloggers to spread festive cheer by doing a good deed and then of course blogging about it.  The deed can be as big or as small as you like.  For every good deed blogged about Wayfair pledge to donate £50 to the charity Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity helps the poorest and most vulnerable people lift themselves out of poverty by partnering with them to build their homes and communities. “With a home comes protection from the elements, from disease and from violence”

At Christmas when so many of us are cosying ourselves up in our beautiful,  warm homes, preparing to spend time with people we love in a place we feel safe and comfortable this seemed such an appropriate charity to support in this way.

It didn’t take me long to decide on my ‘good deed’ .  For the past couple of years our neighbours have been students who attend the local dance and drama college and university.  The thought of students as neighbours may fill many with horror, all that loud music and partying into the early hours.

Well our student neighbours are lovely.  Although we don’t see an awful lot of them, when we do they are always pleasant and friendly and we have never been disturbed by them.  My reason for wanting them to be the recipients of my good deed is that they regularly take in deliveries for us.  This may not sound like much but they have saved us so many trips to the post office collection office on a Saturday morning.  They  have never complained about the latest box arriving at their door when we are out (often), as result of my husbands penchant for online shopping!  When we go to collect our latest delivery they always greet us with a smile and are all round lovely neighbours.

As a way of saying thank you to Nathan, Karina, Ellie, Ed and Olivia at no. 19 I made them a batch of Christmas Rocky Road which I took around to them at the weekend.  It was only a very small gesture and actually I was repaying their good deeds by doing one of my own.  I know they enjoyed it because the ‘model’ students that they are, they dropped a thank you card around before they all left to go home for Christmas.IMG_4623

I hope that this very small ‘act of kindness’ helps Wayfair reach their target of donating £5000 before the 31st December.  To complete the task I need to #BlogItForward by nominating two more blogging buddies.  I am nominating Claire from Celebrate Creation and Susan from Mess in the Ness.
