5 on Friday: 5 Under £5 July

5 under £5 JulyIt’s been a couple of months since I last took part in the 5 under £5 series started by Rainbeaubelle.  With some recent purchases under my belt, or in my reusable shopping bags I wanted to take part again.  Just in case you haven’t come across this series before or you are new to Changing pages this is how it goes.  The idea is to post on your blog or instagram 5 things you have bought for under £5 that you’d like to share with the world! I love reading others posts and find them a good source of frippery buying inspiration.  I mean, who doesn’t need a few extra fripperies in their life?  So these are some of my totally ‘essential’ purchases, all of which I’m proud to say were well under the £5 mark.

At the beginning of June, it was really quite hot (remember those days) and in a post holiday jet lagged haze, when our guard was down we took a trip to Homebase to buy some garden furniture.  We came away with an orange table, two chairs and three lanterns, one of which is featured here and cost around £3.49 .  Memories of holiday evenings spent sipping wine by candle light as the sun went down lingered  We imagined continuing this at home at the end of sultry summer days with our lantern flickering romantically (!).  Typically about two days after we bought the furniture and the lanterns  the weather changed for the worse and its only been in the last few days that its been warm enough to spend a lantern lit evening outside again.

My other lighting related purchases were these shocking pink candles from Tiger.  2 for £1 would you believe?  In our dining room I  have a rather lovely but very traditional silver candelabra which I inherited and is consequently very precious to me.  However, I decided to make it a little more contemporary a few months ago by steering away from the traditional church / white candles I had previously used, and instead opted for a more vivid hue.  So this purchase was to replenish stocks and therefore totally justified.  The card was from the Paperchase sale, and cost £1.25. It made me smile as soon as I saw it which is always a good sign.  I have a hoard of nieces and friends children I send birthday card to, so this will be perfect for one of their birthdays later in the year.  I have recently got into the habit of buying birthday cards or other cards when I see them and stashing them in a birthday book designed for that very purpose.  It makes me feel suitably smug and organised.5 Under £5 JulyIts no secret that I love a note book, and one can never have too many I feel.  This beautiful striped brush strokes one is from one of my favourite stationery suppliers, The Green Gables.  I already have one of these, albeit in different colours which I use at work.  It has blank pages rather than lined which  is perfect for my work scribbles.  I bought it as a replacement for the almost finished one I’m currently using.  I also love a list.  Writing lists makes me feel instantly more together than I ever am and when I saw this one also in The Green Gables Sale I couldn’t resist.  This one even has tick boxes included, and who doesn’t love adding a purposeful tick to a tick box. Both of these together were around £5.
