I am never without a list of exhibitions at galleries and museums I want to see. Living in London offers endless opportunities to see so many wonderful displays of art. There is always something new to see. This week I wanted to share a little selection of exhibitions which can be found this year at London’s excellent Victoria & Albert museum which really seems to be excelling itself at the moment with the quality and variety of exhibitions.
Who doesn’t love this portly little honey loving bear? For me this is an absolute must see. The story behind the creative partnership of A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard, brought to life through sketches, letters, photographs, cartoons, ceramics and fashion. It closes on the 8th April so still lots of time to catch this one. I adored Good bye Christopher Robin at the cinema last year and in fact named it as my film of 2018
I’m fascinated by the sea and ocean travel so this journey through the design stories of the world’s greatest ocean liners, including the Titanic, Normandie, the Queen Mary and the Canberra, and their influence on the modern world looks excellent. Its on until the 17th June so there is still plenty of time to catch it.
Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up
I really enjoy the work of Frida Kahlo and remember well an exhibition of her work I saw in London at Tate Modern in 2005. I was drawn to her colour and bold style. So I’m especially looking forward to seeing this collection of her personal artefacts and clothing that had been locked away for 50 years after her death. This collection has never before been exhibited outside Mexico. It opens on the 16th June so is one to pop in the diary for the summer.
There are so many reasons to visit the V&A, if you have not yet been. Fashion, design, art and sculpture abound in the many free galleries. The entrance hall alone with the fabulous glass sculptured chandelier is breathtaking. The museum shop is one of the best around. It has such a great variety of gifts, from books to jewellery and everything in between. I rarely come away without little treat for either myself or someone else. In the summer the courtyard gardens are lined with the most glorious display of hydrangeas, (see image at top of page) and its a lovely place to sit with an ice-cream and a good book. Finally, treat yourself to coffee and cake in the the world’s oldest museum restaurant with its beautifully designed period rooms. Domed celling, pillars, mosaics and huge balls of light. It is such a unique and beautiful space.
Enjoy your wanderings this weekend X
Maybe a visit on our March Sunday??? Xx
