Simon Mayo’s Books of the year pod cast is recent discovery to me but one I have very much enjoyed listening to over the last few weeks.
Most people will know Simon Mayo from his Radio 2 drive time show which he currently hosts with Jo Whiley. As I’m sure you have heard, he will be sadly soon leaving the station. I have grown up with Simon Mayo, listening to him on Radio 1, in the days of the road show, then Radio 5 and of course Radio 2. He is great broadcaster, he is also, so I am told a great author. He has published a number of acclaimed children books.
He is also a book lover. On his previous Radio 2 show he hosted the Radio 2 book club along side Matt Williams, the sports presenter at the time. This was a great listen and I loved the insightful interviews and clear love of books and readings. Eleanor Elephant is Completely Fine (which I reviewed earlier this week) was a previous Radio 2 book club book.
This a very roundabout way of saying, although Simon does not host the Radio 2 Book Club any more, he does along side the afore mentioned Matt William host ‘Simon Mayo’s books of the year Podcast’ Here, Simon and Matt talk all things books whilst interviewing a selection of interesting authors and getting listeners reading recommendations.
So if you are looking for some bookish inspiration this weekend then take a listen to the podcast which you can find here. I recently listened to the interview with Graham Norton, who’s second book The Keeper has just been published. It was great to listen to Grahams take on wiring and how lucky he feels to be published.
Have an inspirational weekend.
