If you are looking for some calming Christmas inspiration this weekend, then I suggest you look no further than the wonderful Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater. This is a book I bought last year although almost too close to Christmas to make full use of it. This year I have been dipping in and out of it since November and I love it.
As with all things Nigel Slater it is beautifully put together, The images are gentle and without fuss. Nigel’s writing style is utterly appealing, He is enthusiastic without being gushing. He understands food and the emotive role it plays in lives, and he clearly loves the winter months.
“It as if my entire childhood was lived out in the cold months, a decade togged up in duffle coats and mittens, wellingtons and woolly hats. To this day I am never happier than when there is frost on the roof and a fire in the hearth”
This book will have you longing to both curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and take to your kitchen to do some methodical stirring and mixing.
I love this book and despite its weight, took it with me on a train ride recently, such was my wish to be lost among its pages. So if you are thinking of treating your self for Christmas, something of which I wholeheartedly approve then I would encourage you to treat your self to a copy of this gorgeous book. I can guarentee you will be pulling it on and off your shelves for many winters to come.
I can’t remember how I found this post recently, but I just received my copy of The Christmas Chronicles and it is beautiful! I can’t wait to curl up with these pages throughout the winter season this year. So glad that you recommended it! xx
