Finding Quiet London

I am an avid believer that calm and quiet can be found in even the most frenetic of places.  London is indeed a frenetic city.  The never ending traffic, the people, the noise, the increasingly 24/7 nature of the city can make it an exciting but also exhausting place to be.

To survive life in the city, I make it my aim to seek out the quieter places.  Those places which encourage peace and ooze tranquility.  I find myself increasingly drawn to those parts of London which remain a little sleepier, a little calmer and often little more well hidden.  When you begin to seek out these places, it seems they are everywhere. Hidden within the beating heart of the city are pretty squares, gardens and quiet corners of parks.  Along side the river, life slows down, moving more gently with the ebb and flow of the water.  Earlier in the morning or later in the evening, London pauses a little and catches it’s breath.  There are always quiet coffee shops, gentle bookstores, libraries, hidden galleries or lesser visited museums, and the serenity of some of London’s most beautiful churches to be found and enjoyed.

All of these places are there to be discovered, and mostly I find by simply being prepared to veer ever so slightly off well trodden paths, it is easy to find them.

Apart from collecting my own images of quiet London I love to collect others images too. Of course instagram is a constant source of inspiration for this pursuit. It seems there are many other like minded souls out there who also enjoy the quieter side of London.  Many of them have been kind enough to share their images with the hashtag I started on Instagram #findingquietLondon

The gallery is growing and below are some of those images I have enjoyed recently.

If you also love finding quiet London then do share your images with the #findingquietLondon hashtag on instagram too.  You may also want to follow some of the lovely accounts who have shared these images.
