Moments of Calm: Hockney and Bluebells

I have been enjoying some wonderful spring time reading.  I’m a big fan of David Hockney and have always found any of his exhibitions I have been fortunate enough to see have been completely memorable.  I am so looking forward to his forth coming exhibition at the Royal Academy.  David Hockney Spring is not cancelled is a collaboration between David Hockney and Martin Gayford.  When lockdown struck David was already living in the farm house in Normandy he had bought some months earlier.  He decided to stay and paint the arrival of spring

David and Martin are great friends and the book is a a collection of of their conversations, and emails and musings on art and life. It is a thoroughly warm and uplifting read.  It is also full of David’s wonderful paintings, and I have found so many moments of calm whilst reading this

The sun has continued to shine all week in London.  Cold, bright mornings and long sunny days have been the norm this week.  Making foray’s into the garden is so much more pleasurable when the weather is good.  At this time of year our garden has an abundance of bluebells and forget me nots.  I love them both although the forget me nots do rather take over.  It is the bluebells which are my favourites.  We have so many, it is easy to pick a handful almost every day.  This is what I have been doing this week.  I have them dotted around the kitchen and on a little table where I keep books.  They smell divine and there is always something especially pleasing about picking flowers from ones own garden!  With that in mind we are tending our cosmos seedlings at the moment.  They are growing well and I’m told they are the ultimate ‘cut and come again’ flower.  So, I am hopeful that in the summer, it is handfuls of cosmos which I shall be bringing into our house.

I hope this is a lovely week for you, full of spring sunshine and calm.
