Wander Art in Mayfair and Belgravia

London’s cultural life has been restored this week with galleries and museums opening their doors to culture starved culture vultures the length and breadth of the city.

For those who are still feeling a little wobbly about doing inside things, and don’t quite feel ready for the big exhibitions from behind a mask, then Wander Art is the answer.

Wander Art is a collection of 12 outdoor art installations from world renowned artists.  The installations can be found around the salubrious neighbourhoods of Mayfair and Belgravia.

The Wander Art Website  provides a map, which if I’m honest takes a little bit of working out but it does show you the proximity of one installation to another.  It also gives helpful information about each of the artists and the piece of art.

All of the installations are within reasonable walking distance of each other. We began in Mayfair and finished in Belgravia, simply because it suited us but there is no set route and the joy is being able to wander from one to the other in which ever direction you choose.

Mayfair and Belgravia are the perfect areas for wandering art.  Firstly because they are beautiful and interesting areas to wander at any time; secondly because there are so many pretty gardens in which to pause; and thirdly because there are a huge variety of excellent cafes and eateries in which to wet your whistle whilst you wander!

The art trail takes in both Motcombe Street and Elizabeth Street in Belgravia, and more photogenic streets it is hard to find.  Try and resist taking a photograph (or 6) of Peggy Porschen on the corner of Elizabeth street, it’s impossible!

All of the installations are fun and full of joy, which seems to be just what we need right now.
