Day 9: The Piccadilly Arcade

Day 9 The Piccadilly Arcade

Behind the next door on our London Advent Calendar is the historic Piccadilly Arcade. Located between Piccadilly and Jermyn Street. It was opened in 1909, and it retains it’s Edwardian elegance.  It doesn’t take much imagination to see ladies in soft flowing dresses and gentlemen in frock coats and top hats slowly wending their way past the shops towards St James.  Beau Brummel appropriately keeps watch over the arcade. From his bronze statue on Jermyn Street he knowingly monitors the sartorial style of all who pass by.

At Christmas the Piccadilly Arcade glitters and sparkles. Pretty snowflakes and white fairy lights are suspended from the ceiling and reflect in the lamps which lead from one end of the arcade to the other. The curved  and carefully curated windows of each small and exclusive shop twinkle with lights and temptation.

The shops are small and stylish testifying to the well known phrase that ‘the best things come in small packages’.  This is a gorgeous place  for some Christmassy window shopping or to find something extra special..
