Day 19 – Primrose Hill Books

London Bookshop Advent

Day 19 Primrose Hill Books

It can at first glance feel tricky to open the door and step inside Primrose Hill Books. Simply because this Bookshop is literally overflowing with an almost overwhelming selection of books. Books line every surface and are stacked on shelves from floor to ceiling, tucked into corners and squeezed into tight spaces.  The bookshop is set in a Victorian terrace which makes it rather small and compact.  What it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in content.

You may not immediately find what you are looking for but keep searching, pick up books scan the stacks and search the piles of lovely volumes just waiting to be read.  On my last couple of visits here I picked up an Elizabeth Strout which I hadn’t yet read and most recently a copy of Stories for Christmas and the Festive Season published by the  British Library Women Writers.  Both had been on my radar but I had forgotten about them until I was here.  This is the kind of bookshop Primrose Hill Books is.  You are reminded of those books on your TBR list which had temporarily slipped to the back of your mind.

If your day includes some time for sitting in the park then this is an excellent place to pick up some reading material.  Primrose Hill Books is just moments from Regents Park and one of the best views in London,  a view which I am sure has inspired many words.  Nearby there are other small independent shops and cafes, and of course many folk gravitate here on a pilgrimage to the pastel coloured street where Paddington the little brown bear from Peru lived.

Nearest Tube: Chalk Farm
