If you are not here early in the day then getting through the door and into Notting Hill Bookshop might be a little challenging.
n 1999 the bookshop became famous after its interior was copied in the Notting Hill film featuring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. Since then overs of the film flock to have their picture taken by the blue door and buy tote bags bearing the name of the film’s title. It is also moments from Portobello Road, another busy tourist destination making it part of many booklovers itineraries when visiting this part of London
Busyness aside, The Notting Hill Bookshop is a lovely little book shop with many reasons to visit other than it’s association with Hugh and Julia! If you are a collector of beautiful editions of classics or gift editions of well known books then Notting Hill Bookshop is a good place to find these. I am always drawn to pretty editions of Jane Austen and there are many to choose from here.
The children’s sections is also lovely, all housed under a glass roof. Lots of classic Paddington, Winnie the Pooh and Beatrix Potter books to choose from along side a selection of toys designed for learning.
Not just a shop for lovers of the film, but a very good bookshop in it’s own right
Nearest Tube: Ladbroke Grove or Notting Hill Gate
