The Weekend Wander #26 Films and Walks

Autumn Walks

Since the clocks have gone back and the days are getting shorter, and the nights longer it is impossible to ignore that winter is just around the corner. Thankfully at the moment we are still having some bright(ish) days and the weather forecast this weekend if somewhat chilly at least has the promise of a little sunshine on Sunday.

Bright days and long nights are perfect for bracing walks followed by a good film, ideally with some hearty food and a glass of warming red wine somewhere in between.

Netflix and amazon and all those other things that everyone has at the touch of a button or the swipe of a smart phone these days are all well and good but I still put a trip to the cinema high on my list of favourite, and in particular favourite autumn / winter things to do.  Some films are just made for the big screen and I love the total immersion into a film that I only seem able to manage at the cinema.  I’m normally such a fidget that what ever I watch at home I become easily distracted.  I’m not a huge fan of the big cinema complexes and much prefer smaller, more intimate venues, ideally with one screen, tables between seats and a bar!  The Gate Picture house in Notting Hill is always my first choice, closely followed by The Curzon in Richmond.  A more recent discovery is The Curzon Mondrian on the South bank, another great venue.

My last cinema outing was to see ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin‘. Wonderful.  If you haven’t seen it, do, but  take tissues, there will be tears.

The films on my list for the coming days and weeks are

Murder on the Orient Express – a stellar cast including the likes of Kenneth Branagh, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, and Judi Dench in what looks to be a super stylish telling of a well known Agatha Christie classic

Paddington 2 – I adored the first Paddington movie and can’t wait to see this one.  I was trying to decide this morning who is my favourite beat, Paddington or Pooh bear – its a tough call!

Breathe – I know this has been out for a while now but I would still love to see it.  Although from the reviews I’ve read I am a little concerned that I might sob uncontrollably, so maybe this is one to watch in the comfort of my own living room!

Have a lovely weekend wherever you are and whatever you do

Really like your blog. Came across it while looking for info on Pullens Yard. I think we share similar tastes in books. Your photos are beautiful.
