My Moments of Joy #22

A Village Show and Lemon Curd

Last weekend I was in the village in Norfolk where I grew up and where my mum still lives.  I was there for the local village show which my mum is an instrumental part of! It was (as it always is) a lovely occasion.  A brilliant display of home grown fruit and vegetables, crafts and photography and of course baking.  I’m not sure how legitimate my entries are as an outsider but I can’t pretend I wasn’t just a little bit pleased to win second prize with my lemon curd and cherry cake.  The weather was beautiful, the local community came together in the local church and a jolly good time was had by all.

Planning for September

In todays newspaper, someone had written that the worst thing about this summer was it had to come to an end.  I couldn’t agree more.  I have loved this summer and I’m very reluctant to leave  it behind.  However I have had some satisfaction this week thinking about the rest of the year and making plans for  holidays, for things I want to achieve, and of course for Changing Pages.  If you read my most recent post, you will have seen my new series ‘Inspiring the weekend’ starts this week.

Golden Light

Norfolk is a beautiful county, not that I’m biased of course, but at this time of year when the sun is less harsh and the light takes on a golden hue it looks even more beautiful.  I really noticed the gentle light in the morning and evening illuminating the harvested fields, and dancing off tufts of cut corn. I have really enjoyed the light this week in London too.  Although there is no denying the days are getting shorter there is a particular quality to the autumn light which is very special, and this week despite the autumnal chill there has been real joy running and cycling on these early September days.

Have a joyful week X
