Inspiring the Weekend: Magazines

Are you a big magazine reader?  If I’m honest, I’m not.  I read so many books I don’t always have time for magazines.  However in the last couple of years I have discovered a few independent magazines I really like and will actively seek out, especially before holidays or at the change of the season interestingly!

One of these magazines is The Simple Things which I have written about before. Despite it being hugely popular it is not always easy to find.  So imagine my delight when I discovered a very easy way to buy this alongside lots of other equally inspiring independent magazines.

Pics and Ink

If you don’t know Pics and Ink, it is a relatively new on line retailer of independent magazines.  As with many things I discovered it via the magic of social media.

The Pics and Ink website is incredibly easy to negotiate. There are ‘virtual’ stocked bookshelves of magazines ready for browsing.  You can browse via category such as lifestyle, travel, adventure, food or science and create your own list of interests to help you find what you are particularly looking for each time you visit.

There are so many beautiful magazines, which are not routinely available on standard newsagents racks.  If your usual magazine is of the glossy variety, then do take a look at Pics & Ink, they offer something completely different.  The joy of independent magazines is not just the high quality writing but the images that accompany them.  Flicking through these kind of magazines is a great way of finding inspiration for your own images and photography. This is especially helpful if you are a keen instagrammer.

On my first visit, I ordered two magazines. ‘Oh Comely‘ a beautiful magazine full of writing on all manner of interesting subjects and gorgeous accompanying art and photography.  Each publication has a theme, which it approaches it in a variety of ways. Poetry, stories, recipes and travel inspiration are all regular features.  I love it!

I also bought ‘Mslexia‘  I was previously unaware of this magazine, but was instantly drawn to the ethereal cover and its billing as ‘the magazine for women who write’.  I have done  little creative writing in the last couple of years and its something I would like to do more of again next year.  Mslexia is packed with authors interviews along side advice from publishers, agents and editors.  It has writing exercises and courses and competitions.  I shall be taking it on holiday with me next week for writing inspiration.

I could easily have bought many other magazines and have bookmarked a few for future purchases.

Pics and Ink has a reasonable delivery charge of £2 no matter how many magazines you buy. and mine arrived within 2 days of ordering.  They also stock back issues of lots of the magazines too.  An all round great service.

So if you are looking for inspiration this weekend, I would highly recommend a browse of the Pics and Ink shelves.

FYI. This is not a sponsored post, I just really like this retailer.
