Moments of Calm

I hope everyone is feeling suitably restored and refreshed by the Christmas and New Year holiday and looking forward, even if its with trepidation to what 2019 may bring. As I sit typing this, on one hand I can hardly believe that New Years Day was only 5 days ago and yet on the other Christmas seems an age ago.

We took our Christmas tree down today. We left it until the last possible moment and I’m glad we did as the smell of pine needles and twinkly lights certainly brighten a grey January day. As I was reflecting on this week which began in Norfolk with friends celebrating the arrival of 2019, I realised how thankful I already feel this year and how many things have already made me calm and happy.

Christmas Tree and Fairy Lights

As I mentioned I have loved our Christmas tree. It has been particularly special this year as it came from our garden. Sitting in the arm chair beside our tree with the lights illuminating the pretty baubles and decorations we have gathered over the years along side a couple of new additions this year has been just lovely. Its only been gone a few hours but I do miss it!

Candles

I’m not a huge fan of winter. the days are so short and activities are curtailed because of this. However I have really relished the opportunity to close the curtains early this week and light the candles. I have lots of candles and am of the firm belief a room immediately feels cosy and calm with a candle. I have a lovely gentle scented one called ‘Sleigh Bells’ which I has kept our home smelling sweet this week.

Reading at the Weekend

Reading is always high on the list of things I like to do to relax or unwind. I’m not a huge watcher of TV, but love to spend evenings reading and I have done lots of that this week. I had some lovely books for Christmas which I have enjoyed flicking through but I’ve also been totally immersed in a wonderful novel by Harriet Evans.

So as we go into the first full week of 2019, I wish you a week of calm and happy moments.
