Moments of Calm

The weather may have gone a little off course this weekend but certainly in London anyway, the weather has been generally very pleasant this summer.  I have enjoyed the light evenings and warm days as I have wandered my my way through London, read lots of books and sat quietly in my garden of an evening.  I am thankful there have been plenty of lovely calm summer moments over the last few weeks.

Walking London’s Canals

Many people who do not know London will often be surprised to learn there are other waterways part from The River Thames.  There is in fact a network of canals which snake through London and provide an excellent way to escape the throngs.  I discovered a beautiful stretch along side London Zoo and Regents Park a few weeks ago when the sun was blazing.  Being near water just makes you feel cooler don’t you find?  I also had a lovely time with friends walking along the canal from Paddington to Maida Vale.  This is a lovely stretch filled with coloured boats and lined with pretty places to stop and watch or find a little refreshment.

An Afternoon Enjoying Gardens and Creative Conversation

I had a lovely afternoon with friends at Fenton House in Hampstead.  The gardens are just joyous and the company was wonderful too.  I chatted with friends I have made via the wonderful Makelight Community of which I am a member.  We took photographs (lots!) and talked instagram, blogging and creative endeavours, amongst other things.  A deckchair under the apple trees in the sunshine was perfect for whiling away a gentle, calm Sunday afternoon with some inspiring women.

The Nature Loves Quotation Book

This is a book I picked up in Sausalito, California, earlier this year.  I bought it in a wonderful bookshop overlooking the bay and it has been one of my go to books for nature inspiration this summer.  Its filled full of quotations about the different role nature plays for different people wherever they are in life. Its premise being that the natural world offers comfort in chaotic times. I have turned to this book so often, always finding a quote thats just right for that moment in time.

“Every now and then take good look at something  not made with hands – a mountain, a star, the turn of a stream.  There will come to you wisdom and patience and solace and, above all, the assurance that you are not alone  in the world”  Sid Lovett
