Moments of Calm

By the Sea

If I am not in London, my next favourite place to be is by the sea.  There is something very special about the sea, and there are few places I like better for just that than Cornwall.  With out question Cornwall is one of my happy places.  I always feel equally calm and invigorated when I am there.  The combination of the sea, the wildness of the weather (especially in winter) and the clean air just make me feel good!

A recent few days spent in St Ives exploring the coast and pretty harbour towns and villages, running and walking along coastal paths, dodging the rain and enjoying some spectacular rainbows was wonderful in every way. A very good to way prepare for the busy weeks ahead.

Morning Reading

Being lost in a book is one of the loveliest places to be.  I wrote recently of the benefits reading can be to mental health and I fully believe that.  This week, for whatever reason I haven’t slept overly well, often waking early.  I made the most of this by getting up and sitting with a cup of tea and a book for half an hour or so before the day properly began. Always better to greet the morning with a book rather than a device! A few moments of calm and a gentle way to begin the day.

Autumn Colours

Is it me or does Autumn seem to have happened a little later than usual?  I always think that by bonfire night, the leaves have dropped and nature is looking a little bare.  Not this year. November colours have been glorious. The early morning light when the sun is low is the best time to catch it and a walk across Richmond Green this week was a real highlight.  Being in nature for even 5 minutes is so helpful.

Whatever your week is looking like I hope that calm will reign!

Thank you for your wise words. Instead of reaching for my phone when I wake up, I shall try and reach for a book, even if only for five minutes. 😊

Reading a few pages is a lovely way to start the day. I keep my phone away from my bed and try not to pick it up until I’m ready (Or almost ready!)for work.
