Moments of Christmas Calm

In my last post, I wrote about some of the Christmas rituals which can help instill calm at this busy time of year.  In the last few days I have begun to put some of these into practice.

Christmas Light

My house is now officially preparing for Christmas.  The fairy lights are strung from door frames and and across fireplaces.  Candles are being  lit on all occasions and the dark evenings are a lot cosier because of it.  I shall be adding more tea lights to my shopping list this week!

Christmas Tree Festival

I had a gorgeous day with my mum this week. We went to visit a Christmas tree festival in the small town nearest to where she lives.  The local church puts on this event every year and invites local charities to decorate a tree which is placed in the church in the lead up to Christmas.  Beside each tree is a bucket for donations and the church is opened up for visitors to enjoy the trees, donate to charity and have a cup of tea and mince pie.  There were 28 trees in all, each one with its own character and theme.  We had such good time wandering around them all and donating a few pennies to some very worthy causes.  A very happy and peaceful hour well spent.

Christmas Shopping

On the same day, we also did some Christmas shopping in the local town.  We popped into a few small independent shops where the service was helpful and friendly and many things for sale were made or sourced locally.  No crowds, no stress and no big department stores, and I managed to tick off three more people on my list.

This is definitely my preferred way to Christmas shop, and later this week I shall be sharing some ideas on where to go ‘quiet Christmas shopping’ in London.

However you build up to Christmas is going, I wish you small moments of Christmas calm xx
