Moments of Calm

Finding moments of calm seem all the more important right now don’t they.  When the news is full of rising death tolls, spread of the virus and the difficulties so many businesses and individuals are facing each day, its hard not to feel anxious and of course sad.

Now more than ever, finding ways to feel calm and looking at the small things and little pleasures that unexpectedly come our way is somehow grounding and comforting.

Like everyone reading this I imagine, I have had another week of mixed emotions and varying levels of calm and anxiety.  Sometimes one can follow the other quite quickly!

However, there have been some lovely moment during this week when I have felt peaceful and calm and thankful too.

Bird song

I arrived home from work one evening this week and just for a few moments stood in my garden and listen to the birds.  The birdsong is just so much louder and more noticeable isn’t it. Just for those few moments a sense of calm prevailed.

Cycling to Work

I am so grateful for my cycle commute at the moment.  The roads are blissfully quiet, which is a joy. My ride along the River Thames and through a park are a real pleasure. On the way to work, I use the time to prepare myself and think about the day ahead.  It is on the way home though when it really makes a difference.  It is 30 minutes when I can reflect on the day that has gone, process some of the events and try to simply ‘let it go’.  Mostly it means when I arrive home, I am much calmer and in a mentally better space. I suspect this is not only good for me, but for my husband too!

Tea and Books

Reading, always reading.  Books are an escape, and place to go to when every thing feels scary and uncertain.  Losing myself in someone else’s story is particularly helpful right now.  Its especially hard to switch off completely from what is all around us, but the times I sit with a book and a cup of tea, are often the times when I’m sure my heart rate comes down and I properly relax.

This week, I wish you all  time to be still,  time to breath and time to find your own moments of calm xx

Thanks, Angie! yes, it is difficult to stay calm and relaxed these days. I find the garden, or really anything to do with gardening, to be so peaceful. My two favorite garden centers are open for outdoor shopping only; no cash; and they load your things into the car. I could spend a fortune going there every day! My neighbors, seeing me in the garden again, say “At it again, I see” or something similar. They don’t get it. It’s not a chore, it’s pure pleasure! Stay safe Angie.
