Day 8: Victoria and Albert Museum
If you have been reading Changing Pages for any time at all, or have followed me on instagram, you will know that I adore the Victoria and Albert Museum.
It is my go to museum in London and any time spent there is time well spent. I was asked recently where I go to find creative inspiration, and within a moment’s breath, my reply was The V&A.
I don’t think I will ever grow tired of the privilege of being surrounded by the beauty and treasures which can be found here (and all for free). If I were to describe my ideal ‘day off’ the V&A would always feature. Whenever I go, I always see something new and I always leave feeling inspired and excited.
Christmas at the V&A is exciting too, because of the Christmas tree installation. There is always a sense of anticipation about what the V&A will choose for it’s Christmas tree each year.
The tree sits just inside the grand main entrance of the museum and beneath the incredible Chihuly Rotunda Chandelier making it the first thing you say as you enter, so it has to be a show stopper
Each year the museum commissions a designer to create a Christmas tree. Over the years these have ranged from real trees, singing trees, and red velvet trees. The designs are always unique and unlike anything else you will see in London.
This year the Christmas tree installation is by Miss Sohee a Korean London based designer. She has created a dramatic, three-metre high couture gown which combines her signature vibrant silhouettes and intricate embroidery with the religious statuary found around the museum. The ethereal gown cascades in flowing swathes of fabric and blows gently in the breeze as visitors come and go. The star is created with intricate embroidery and Swarovski crystals which sparkle as they catch the lights from above.
This not a Christmas tree in the traditional sense but I love it. It is elegant and it holds a sense of wonder and the element of surprise which is part of the joy of Christmas.
That is really lovely!
