London Bookshop Advent
Day 18 – The House of Books
The House of Books was a new discovery and not one I had originally planned as part of my London Bookshop Advent. I chanced upon it after visiting nearby West End Lane Books, but seeing the door already flung open revealing bright lights, tables of books and festive displays I could not help but go inside. Like all good bookshops it was warm and welcoming and filled with a tempting array of books. The fiction section seemed especially strong with a wide range of titles across all genres. The Children’s section was also lovely with lots of Christmas books at child height and some beautiful picture books
I was particularly struck by how many interesting editions there were of many of the classics and had to stop myself from buying another copy of Sense and Sensibility just because of the pretty cover.
However whilst I was here I did pick up a copy of a gorgeous Angela Harding book at a significantly discounted price which I was unable to resist. I was thrilled by this discovery and was congratulated on my find by the very friendly bookseller. We discussed how difficult it is to resist buying books and what a daily challenge it is for her as a bookseller! I had originally planned to give this book as a gift but I think I have since decided to give it as a gift to myself for all the bookish miles covered on foot in recent weeks!
The House of Boos was a very happy discovery and another reason to pop back to West Hampstead.
