London Bookshop Advent
Day 21: Fosters Books Chiswick
When you step through the door of Foster Books in Chiswick, you know you have entered somewhere special. This beautiful 18th century shop front leads you into a shop filled with Dickensian overtones and memories of times gone by. It is the oldest shop on Chiswick high road and has been selling books for over 50 years
This is a second hand bookshop but not just any old second hand bookshops. The books here are mostly vintage and pre loved and there are lots of rare first editions. This is a shop for collectors and lovers of antiquarian books but also for those who simply love books. There are many books here which are affordable and I have often picked up some of my favourite vintage authors for a few pounds. If you enjoy Persephone books this is also a good place to browse, as you will often find them tucked beneath piles of other books.
The shelves are stuffed and over filled, books cover every spare surface and take up lots of floor space, and spill over to the outside where tables are laid out everyday with samples of the treasures you will find inside. The booksellers are friendly and interested and very easy to start a conversation with and always willing to help you find what you are looking for
