I knew very little about the life of Turner before the film, and was drawn by both the subject matter, and Timothy Spall’s interpretation of the artist.
I think Timothy Spall is a wonderful actor and his portrayal of J.W.M Turner as a snaffling, snorting creature; confident, bumptious and aware of his own brilliance, kept me enthralled throughout the 2 hours 29 minutes of the films duration.
If you are seeking some gentle entertainment this weekend then you won’t go far wrong by going to see Turner. It’s a fine weekend treat .
If you are in London you could even follow it up with a visit to the Late Turner exhibition at Tate Britain. I intend to.
Have a lovely weekend one and all!
