Day 12: Columbia Road

Day 12 Columbia Road

I’m heading over to Columbia Road in East London to open the 12th door on our London Advent calendar. Columbia Road is best known for its flower market which you will find every Sunday. It fills the length of the road where every stall is filled with plants and flowers and enthusiastic market stall holders promoting their wares. It becomes very busy here, but one of the joys is seeing folk staggering home under the weight of huge bunches of flowers or cumbersome houseplants.

Christmas is a great time to visit as it is less crowded than in the height of summer. It’s not just the flower market which makes this part of London worth visiting though. Columbia Road is a haven of cute independent and vintage shops. There are so many unique shops here selling vintage wares, antiques, clothes, candles, gardening paraphernalia, and so much more. At Christmas all of the shop windows are dressed in their festive finest overflowing with ribbons and baubles. The atmosphere is friendly and authentic and there are lots of cafes to refuel with coffee and hot chocolate.

This is a wonderful place for some Christmas shopping or browsing.
